According to Decision No.341/QD-HKTL of the Rector of the University of Economics and Law, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City dated April 15, 2013, the Faculty of Economic Law was established based on splitting the Faculty of Law into two faculties: Faculty of Law and Faculty of Economic Law.

The establishment of the Faculty of Economic Law has a great meaning in realizing the goal of building and developing the University of Economics and Law into one of the centers for the undergraduate, postgraduate training, and high-quality scientific research in the fields of Economics, Administration, and Law as the core of the higher education system in the southern region; meet the needs of socioeconomic development of the southern region and international integration.

The specific functions and tasks of the Faculty of Economic Law:

- University-level training in Business Law and International Commercial Law; post-graduate training (Master's and Ph.D.) in Economic Law.

- Conduct scientific research and collaborate with domestic and foreign units on research projects and curriculum exchange in the field of Jurisprudence.

The Faculty of Economic Law's mission is to provide students with a diverse learning environment that encourages personal development, from which they can acquire legal knowledge with an international perspective and connections, resulting in the formation of new legal professions, professional ethics, and appropriate professional skills Improve faculty knowledge and promote legal research by providing academic resources and environments. Secure and encourage students, faculty, and staff to contribute and provide services to the community, country, and world. Sharing knowledge and expertise to serve the development of the University of Economics - Law, the legal profession, and the developing information community.
